Volunteers & Interns Share Their Stories

Our volunteers are the core of our agency. With over 250 volunteers in 2014 providing 6,500+ hours our doors are open because of your generosity of spirit. But it’s more, much more:

Thank you for creating an environment where I always felt welcome and encouraged to grow, both personally and professionally and for sharing your wisdom. I've experienced firsthand how this organization empowers and opens doors for women like me. After coping with a job loss, this organization gave me a chance when nobody else would. I learned so much here and I leave with more confidence than I had when I first stepped through the door and I will be forever grateful – AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer

The essence of our work is human development. One way we are able to carry out our mission is through our work with student interns from local colleges and the Tacoma School of the Arts. These are women who want to explore the path of human service. They come to us with wide talents, compassion, intelligence, enthusiasm and creativity. We provide them with opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and deep wisdom we have been utilizing since the YWCA opened its doors in 1945. Our student interns are another aspect of our belief that all people, no matter age or background, can serve.

Though my time with your incredible organization, I have been able to solidity my sincere passion for women’s advocacy. My time with the YWCA of Olympia has given me the chance to be a part of things that I genuinely believed are significant – 2014 Intern
