For the 24th year, YWCA Olympia seeks to honor and celebrate inspiring womxn* during our 2018 Womxn of Achievement Celebration. Join us in honoring the amazing accomplishments and contributions of womxn in their professional work or in service to the community on Saturday, November 10th at South Puget Sound Community College. Established in 1994, the YWCA Olympia Womxn & Business of Achievement Awards are one of the most prestigious honors for womxn in the South Sound. The award honors womxn who embody outstanding leadership qualities, are exceptionally committed to their community or profession, and live the YWCA Olympia mission to eliminate racism and sexism to advance the political, social and economic status of all womxn and girls and embody our vision of a world where all people are valued, live free from oppression and thrive in a just society.
As part of this legacy, YWCA Olympia will honor one young woman during our annual celebration on November 10, 2018. In addition, the Young Woman of Achievement will receive the The Mary P. Dolciani Young Woman of Achievement Scholarship of $1,000, generously provided by The Mary P. Dolciani Halloran Foundation.
- Eligible applicants/nominees include seniors (strongly preferred) in high school (or home school equivalent) at the time of the award celebration (November 10, 2018). We accept nominations for youth residing in Thurston County.
- The Mary P. Dolciani Young Woman of Achievement Scholarship will be awarded each year to one high school girl who has participated in the YWCA of Olympia’s Girls Without Limits! program.
- The youth must also be pursuing post-secondary education in a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) field or math education, for which the scholarship will be used. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial support to a young woman who has the aptitude and interest to pursue a STEM or math education college major and eventual career in a related field. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books and fees associated with attending a post-secondary institution.
A confidential committee, including community members, will review the application materials and award the scholarship with YWCA staff input. The selected Honoree will be notified on or around Sept 29th. All information contained in this nomination will remain confidential.
*YWCA is using the “label” womxn to encompass a broader range of identities than woman. YWCA Olympia programs welcome women, girls, Two-Spirit, gender non-binary, and queer folks who are compelled to participate in a femme centered space.
